Note from the family (Barry Schofield): Thomas Henry Coope was born 15 June
1894 in New Wortley, Leeds, not in Thirsk as shown on The
Yorkshire Regiment, First World War webpage, although the family did live
at 14 Railway Terrace, Sowerby. He was the younger brother of my wife's grandfather.
He was one of four children born to Thomas Coope and Mary Elizabeth (nee Cockfield)
of Hope Cottages, Back Lane, Sowerby. Before enlisting in the Army, he was employed
as a Locomotive fireman on the North Eastern Railway. He had been home on leave
in May 1918 and had married Marian Owens at St.Oswald's Church, Sowerby, on
18 May 1918. He returned to France on 25 July 1918 and was killed in action
2 September 1918.
